In these times marked by significant global health challenges, access to safe drinking water is more than ever a fundamental pillar of public health and collective well-being.

SONEDE INTERNATIONAL has worked throughout the past decade, to share the long-standing experience of its mother company SONEDE to the benefit of water operators in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, by carrying out strategic and structuring drinking water projects, granting thereby the improvement of populations life conditions in urban and rural areas while respecting both environment and ethical rules.

SONEDE International conducts the following skills: :

Studies of Water Supply Projects (AEP): Preliminary and detailed design studies (APS, APD) for new hydraulic projects, rehabilitation and upgrading of existing potable water networks and facilities; preparation of bidding documents; development of master plans and water supply schemes; implementation of procurement procedures.
Design, monitoring, control, and supervision of project implementation.
Institutional and organizational support: Establishment of management rules and procedural manuals; assistance in preparing terms of reference and specifications for the acquisition of integrated standard software (commercial management, HRM, accounting, procurement, and inventory management).
Technical assistance in water-related fields: diagnostic studies, network management, preparation of technical specifications, development of bidding documents, bid evaluation, contractor selection, and contract preparation.
Technical and administrative project management: design approvals, receipt of supplies, issuance of service orders, organization and facilitation of site meetings, preparation of progress reports, approval of interim statements, and provisional and final acceptance of networks and facilities.
Project progress evaluation on behalf of donors.
Support and monitoring of software configuration and data integration into standard systems.
Management of drinking water infrastructure: boreholes, intake stations, treatment plants, pumping stations, transmission and distribution networks, reservoirs, service connections, etc.
Operation of networks and facilities.
Commercial management: billing and collection, customer service, financial management, inventory control.
Awareness campaigns and outreach activities.
Staff training in the water sector.

Presentation

SONEDE International was established in 2009 by the Société Nationale d’Exploitation et de Distribution des Eaux (SONEDE) to leverage its extensive experience and expertise in the water and sanitation sector, developed since 1968. Its mission is to operate both in Tunisia and internationally, in response to the growing demand for sustainable water management.

SONEDE is the public utility responsible for potable water services in Tunisia. It manages the production, distribution, maintenance, and servicing of water infrastructure throughout the national territory.

In 2023 SONEDE reported the following key results :

3.25 million subscribers serving a population of 11.904 million,
Coverage rate: 100% in urban areas, 95.3% in rural areas, with an overall coverage of 85.4%,
Annual production: 806.4 million m³,
Distributed volume: 683.7 million m³,
Network efficiency: 86.8% for transmission, 77.7% for distribution.

Building on this expertise, SONEDE International supports water operators across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia in the implementation of engineering studies, technical assistance, project supervision, and construction monitoring. It is particularly involved in projects related to the expansion and modernization of water distribution networks.

SONEDE International draws on the technical and operational expertise of SONEDE, which employed 6,488 staff members in 2023, including 890 senior executives (13.7%) and 1,384 supervisory staff (21.3%). This internal expertise, built on a highly qualified and experienced workforce in water utility management, enables SONEDE International to effectively meet the requirements of international markets, capitalizing on SONEDE’s proven technical and financial track record.

SONEDE reaffirms its full support for SONEDE International in its international engagements, authorizing the use of its resources, expertise, and financial records for the preparation of bids and execution of assigned missions.
